New Music Review: Petal

American rock band Petal recently released their first studio album “Shame”. The twelve-track album is Petal’s first full-length release following a short EP “Scout” in 2013. The time between releases is unsurprising and relatively short considering Petal consists of only one permanent member, Kiley Lotz. Despite this independence, when touring Lotz is supported by members of other bands such as Brianna Collins and Ben Walsh of Tigers Jaw, members of “Captain, We’re Sinking,” Halfling, and other acts.

A Movie Review: Crimson Peak

Director Guillermo del Toro is known for pulling audiences into his fantastic worlds, worlds that are filled with beauty, fantasy, and horror alike.  These themes permeate through his latest horror project, “Crimson Peak”, a story about a young writer who falls for a seductive stranger. While the premise is simple, the plot drags the entire film, making the already-intense climax more intense, relatively speaking. With stars like Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston making up the leads, the acting was done beautifully, but the real star that shines isn’t an actor at all, but rather the old, haunted mansion where the majority of the film is shot.

“Good Kids” debuts at Leach Theater

In this student-led production, “Good Kids” explores the role social media takes when a high school girl is sexually assaulted by football players from her school. Written by Naomi Lizuka and directed by Jeanna Stanley. Adult content is discussed.

Students can receive FREE tickets with a valid student ID if reserved in advance. Regular tickets are $12. Leach Theater Box office is open Monday-Friday 9 AM-4 PM. The performance is on October 29, 30, 31 at 7:30 PM and November 1 at 2 PM. For more info, email Jeanne Stanley.
