With week nine in the National Football League over there are only three teams that remain undefeated in the 2015 season. The remaining teams include the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, and Carolina Panthers. The New England Patriots are looking to repeat after winning the Super Bowl last year and to show that they can win despite the deflategate scandal.
The Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals are trying to prove themselves as true contenders to make the playoffs and play in the Super Bowl. Both teams have had a bye week and see themselves with an eight and zero record with eight more weeks left to play in the season.
This week saw the end of an unbeaten record by the Denver Broncos. The Broncos played the Indianapolis Colts this week. The Colts went up with an early 17 point lead. Denver answered with a punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter as the clock went to zero. Denver would score 17 unanswered points. The Colts would answer back and finished the game winning with a score of 27 to 24.
The New England Patriots came out quickly against the Washington Redskins scoring fourteen points in the first quarter with the help of some early turnovers. Tom Brady came through with two touchdowns and an interception. The final score came out to 27 to 10 making the Patriots an early favorite to repeat in this year’s Super Bowl.
The Carolina Panthers played a game against the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers. Carolina and Green Bay started off slowly with only ten combined points in the first quarter. Cam Newton and the Panthers scored 24 points in the second quarter looking to blowout the Packers. The Packers tried to make a comeback late in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns. With less than two minutes left in fourth quarter the Packers had the ball in the red zone and with the fifteen yard line of the touchdown.
The Carolina Panthers defense came up with a three down stand and on fourth down Aaron Rodgers missed an open Randall Cobb in the end zone and turned the ball over on downs sealing the win for Carolina.
On Thursday night the Cincinnati Bengals faced off against the Cleveland Browns. Johnny Manziel started at quarterback for the injured Brian Hoyer. Manziel completed less than fifty percent of his passes and scored a touchdown while running for 31 yards. Andy Dalton led his team with three touchdowns missing only six passes through the whole game. The Bengals never trailed in the game and won by a score of 31 to 10.
With the season over halfway over having three undefeated teams is impressive. While the New England Patriots are used to this type of winning the other two teams have not seen this type of winning in recent history. It is good for the organization’s, fans, and the National Football League as a whole to see the lower market teams having such a large success.
