SUB Laughfest featuring Demetri Martin

By Tim Maninger, Features Writer

SUB (Student Union Board) has really outdone themselves as of late. In October of 2014, the Student Union Board brought us the musically inclined, stand-up comedian, Bo Burnham. This year, SUB has managed to score a show with a similarly categorized comedian show and the most in demand comedians in the country, Demetri Martin. Martin’s unique comedy style of meandering deadpan has earned him popularity and a Perrier award. He has also written for and appeared on various television shows from Late Night With Conan O’Brien to The Daily Show.

Demetri Martin is coming to Missouri S&T’s Gale Bullman Multi-purpose building, Friday, October 14th at 8 PM. Special guest, comedian Josh Johnson will also be making an appearance alongside Martin as the opening act. Johnson is said to largely contrast the stylings of Demetri Martin, Johnson having a more traditional set, but nonetheless, funny and effective in his purpose as an opener. Overall, you can expect a good performance from both comedians.

In response to the huge turnout with Bo Burnham’s show at Leach in 2014, which was sold out -many students unable to purchase tickets after waiting in long lines- SUB decided to make a change in venue from Leach to Gale Bullman in order to increase seating and ticket sales. It can be assumed that both are a result of meeting the demands of a growing student population and a high profile/well-known comedian. Speaking of ticket sales, tickets are $10 for students and $30 for the general public. Tickets are available for purchase at 222 Havener Center, the Leach Theatre Box Office or online on Leach Theatre’s online box office (the web address featured below). Student tickets are only available for purchase with a valid student I.D. at the Leach Theatre Box Office or 222 Havener Center (second floor of Havener). Fair warning, the Leach online box office only sells general public tickets for $30 with an additional $3.25 convenience fee. Tickets are still available, so get your tickets soon before they sell out! Doors open at 6:30 PM and seeing that all tickets are general admission, it is first come, first serve, so it is recommended to arrive early to get a good seat.

Keep up the good work SUB! Maybe next year you can snag us Tom Segura and his wife and “Main Mommy”, Christina Pazsitzky – hosts of the podcast, Your Mom’s House. Your Mom’s House can be streamed from Soundcloud, YouTube, and their website,
